HLTAID013 Provide First Aid in Remote or Isolated Site
Purpose
HLTAID013 – Provide First Aid in Remote or Isolated Site teaches specialised first aid skills for remote environments where emergency assistance may be delayed. Ideal for remote workers, outdoor guides, park rangers, and adventurers, the course covers managing injuries, illnesses, and environmental conditions such as heatstroke, dehydration, and hypothermia. Participants will also learn to improvise with limited resources, communicate with emergency services, and care for patients until evacuation or medical support arrives.
On completion, participants will be able to confidently assess and manage emergencies in isolated settings, providing effective care and ensuring safety in delayed-response situations.
Entry Requirements
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor and performing rescue breathing techniques on manikins.
Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

Assessment Activities
Performance tasks and practical scenarios:
- Perform CPR on an adult (incl. the use of an AED and placing a casualty into the recovery position)
- Complete a first aid incident report form based on the simulated first aid scenario
- Perform CPR on an infant
- Manage a casualty with anaphylaxis
- Manage a casualty with asthma
- Manage a choking casualty
- Manage a casualty with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock, requiring minor wound cleaning
- Manage a casualty with a nosebleed
- Manage a casualty with a fracture and dislocation
- Manage a casualty with a sprain and strain
- Manage a casualty with envenomation (snake/ funnel-web spider bite)
- Manage a casualty with hyperthermia
- Simulated scenario – First aid response in a remote site (plan and prepare for a remote trip, conduct a basic triage, coordinate an evacuation)
- Complete a planning and equipment checklist
Theory assessment: A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions.

Format
- Course durations can vary for multiple reasons, so the durations below are the minimum possible amount.
- Face-to-Face Face to Face contact time of at least 16 Hours

Learning Objectives
During training you will gain the confidence and ability to recognise an emergency situation, identify hazards and make them safer, and provide a first aid response to infants, children and adults.
You will also learn the importance of recognising the possible psychological impacts on self, other rescuers and children, talking with children about their emotions and responses to events and participating in debriefing with your supervisor.
Requirements for Successful Course Completion
- Attendance at all sections of the First Aid in Education & Care Course is required
- Active participation in group activities and discussions involved in the training program
- Successfully complete progressive practical assessments. Progressive assessment of the competencies will be conducted throughout the course
- Successfully complete either a multiple-choice theoretical assessment, demonstrate practical application of skills or answer structures verbal questions in a one on one or group capacity by the end of the course
