Course Description
Advanced Life Support Level 1 (ALS 1) is designed to build confidence, clinical knowledge, and practical skills for managing medical emergencies, including cardiac arrest situations.
This program is accredited by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) and Resuscitation Australia (RA). It is aimed at healthcare professionals who may occasionally be required to respond to emergencies or care for deteriorating patients until higher-level support becomes available.
What you will learn
This course develops both theoretical understanding and hands-on skills in areas such as:
- Systematic assessment and management of critically unwell patients using the ABCDE framework, with a focus on early intervention to prevent cardiac arrest
- Airway management techniques
- Core basic life support skills
- Use of defibrillators, including both AED and manual modes
- Management of cardiac arrest in line with the ARC ALS Algorithm
- Effective teamwork during resuscitation scenarios

ARC Course Format
This option is delivered as a full-day, in-person workshop combining theory sessions with practical skill stations. Participants receive a printed course manual prior to attendance for pre-course preparation. Full attendance is required, and competency is assessed through practical, scenario-based evaluation at the end of the day.
Resuscitation Australia (RA) Format
This pathway combines self-paced online learning completed before attending, followed by a focused half-day face-to-face practical session offered in either morning or afternoon streams. Knowledge is reinforced through integrated online checkpoints, while practical competency is assessed during the in-person training.
Certification Requirements
To successfully complete ALS 1 and receive certification/credentialing, participants must complete the e-learning component (where applicable) and demonstrate competency in all required practical assessments.
