COVID-19 Testing Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
How much notice do you need to provide onsite COVID-19 testing services?
We can provide same day or next day services if urgent testing is required. We can also book scheduled weekly or monthly testing on your site if required.
Do employees have to have symptoms to be tested?
We can test people who have no symptoms (these are known as asymptomatic). We can also test people who have symptoms but do not have access to medicare or a doctors pathology request. For people who do have symptoms and already have a pathology request from a doctor, we can also test them onsite. We can test any person who consents to the test.
Can close contacts be tested?
Yes, we can test close contacts of confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Can people who have been a close contact of a close contact be tested?
People who are a close contact of a person that is a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case do not require testing under state guidelines however we can test them if they desire to be tested.
Is the COVID test painful?
No, the test is a two step process. The swab of the throat area may feel a bit uncomfortable like a tickling of the tonsils. The swab of the nasal passage is only 2 – 3cm deep and does not go all the way to the back of the throat as some previous media outlets were reporting at the start of the pandemic.
Is there a minimum number of people for an onsite testing booking?
No we can attend your site to test just one person if required. We normally send a mobile testing team if you have a large group to allow for a faster onsite testing process.
How much space do you need to setup the onsite testing clinic?
We can setup the mobile COVID-19 testing service in a room as small as 3m x 3m. We have a fully self sufficient service and can provide a tent or vehicle to conduct the testing in your carpark. We can also have a mobile team onsite who can test people in their own dwellings for residential sites.
Can you test for the presence of other virus?
In addition to detecting SARS-CoV-2, we can also send the swab to testing for other viral illness such as influenza. Using a wider panel of respiratory viruses for testing is particularly useful in people with unexplained respiratory symptoms when negative for COVID-19.
Can you provide a written confirmation of a negative COVID-19 test result?
Yes, we can provide a written confirmation of a negative or ‘non-detected’ COVID-19 test result
How much time should I allow for the testing service?
It takes us approximately 15 minutes to setup onsite, then allow approximately six minutes per person for the testing.
What types of testing is used around the world for COVID-19?
The two main types of SARS-CoV-2 tests being used globally are:
- Nucleic acid detection tests – using qPCR to detect SARS-CoV-2 viral (Ribonucleic acid) RNA; and
- Serology tests – to detect IgM and/or IgG antibodies against SARS-CoV-2
Tests for COVID-19 aim to detect the causative virus, SARS-CoV-2, or an immune response to SARS-CoV-2.
The Nucleic acid detection tests (also known as Swab Tests) are considered the gold standard of COVID-19 testing. This is the only type of test currently being offered by Colbrow Medics. We are not currently offering the Serology tests (also known as Point of Care testing or finger prick testing).
A nasal (or nasopharyngeal) swab is used to diagnose upper respiratory tract infections, such as whooping cough and COVID-19. It is a quick test that may feel a little uncomfortable but is not painful. In this test, secretions from your nose and upper throat are collected using a swab. To do a nasal swab, a small, soft-tipped swab will be inserted into one or both of your nostrils and twirled a few times until it is covered in secretions. A double swab through your mouth and nose can be used for COVID-19 testing. Using a double swab method, the same swab can be used to swab your throat and nose.
